An outing of luxury sports car enthusiasts in Japan ended in an expensive freeway pileup – smashing a stunning eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini and two Mercedes.

Police say they believe the accident Sunday was touched off when the driver of one of the Ferraris tried to change lanes and hit the median barrier. He spun across the freeway, and the other cars collided while trying to avoid hitting his car.

While there are many people who are looking for a new car or used cars UK, here is a list of the top five most bizarre concept cars built by various manufacturers in the past 20 years.

Nissan Land Glider – One of Nissan’s zero-emission concepts, the Land Glider concept makes the car lean when you turn because of a computer controlled steering system. The driver sits in the centre, and there is a spot for a passenger behind them. The narrow car has replaced the steering wheel with a flight yoke, while there’s also a futuristic dashboard and there are monitors to cater for the fact that there are no rear view mirrors in the car.

Heuliez Friendly – It’s almost a mini campervan that is powered by electrons. It is a friendly looking, good for the environment concept that debuted at the Paris Motor Show back in 2008. With three different lengths and motors, this car sits you and two friends and can reach 70 miles per hour with a battery usage of around 140 miles.

Renault Z.E. – One of the bizarre concepts that has made waves in the market in this car from Renault. The Z.E. is used on a battery pack with electrons coming from a lithium ion battery pack. The body panels and heat reflecting paint ensure that the car is insulated, and it is the temperature regulation that lends itself to a reduced climate control load. What it does, ultimately, is lower energy consumption while have modern comforts.

Venturi Volage – An all-electric, carbon fiber race car, this hand-made car is a compact unit using electric drive motors. Each wheel has two motors, with one for propulsion and the other for suspension. The low centre of gravity helps to enhance the performance of the vehicle.

Mazda Kiyora – Part of the “flow” concept vehicles, this car has a look of a spaceship, more than an automobile but the 1.3 litre engine it boasts allows you to calmly cruise the urban streets. This next-generation compact car is known for high fuel-efficiency and is the next step into an urban car to replace their current line.

Audi unveiled the e-tron Syper concept at the Paris auto show 2010. To prove the abilities of this car, it will now show up at LeMans.

The Audi e-tron Spyder features a pair of electric motors driving the front wheels with a combined 87 horsepower of power and 260 pound-feet of torque. In the rear sits a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 TDI that cranks out up to 300 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque. Them horses are funneled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed transmission. Audi says that the three units can operate separately or in unison and lists maximum output at 388 hp, with torque peaking at a hefty 664 pound-feet.

Audi says that despite the hefty 9.1 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery mounted up front, it managed to keep the vehicle’s weight in check and distribute the pounds evenly across the chassis. As a result, the e-tron Spyder should be plenty tossable. Audi claims the e-tron Spyder tips the scales at 3,196 pounds and that the drivetrain provides sufficient electric-only power to hit speeds of up to 37 miles per hour for a total of 31 miles. The manufacturer says that in city driving, that capability is enough to hang with traffic. If not, there’s always that torquey diesel V6 out back.

Renault’s home auto show in Paris this Fall will mark the beginning of a new styling direction for the brand, and that means a new concept car. The DeZir is the first major project under new design vice president Laurens van den Acker and according to Renault, it represents the vision of ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm.’ From where we sit, the shape certainly fulfills the first two elements and the bright red finish is downright hot.

Expect this to be the face of future Renault models, such as the next-generation Laguna. Scissor doors add to the dramatic exterior appearance, while the rear window is replaced by two cameras that produce a panoramic rearward view for the driver.

Inside, the red exterior makes way for a one-piece bench trimmed in contrasting white leather, designed to represent the attraction between two people.

Power comes from a vertically mounted 24kWh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, fed to a 148bhp mid-mounted electric motor. This gives Audi e-tron-rivalling performance, with 0-60mph in only five seconds and a top speed of 112mph.

Propulsion is provided by a 110 kilowatt electric motor spinning the rear wheels and pushing the 1,830 pound concept to 60 mph in 5 seconds (at least according to the spec sheet). Kevlar body panels (including a pair of trick reverse-hinged butterfly doors) are wrapped around a steel tube frame chassis with double wishbones at all four corners. Renault hasn’t given any indication yet if the DeZir will be produced.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport debuted in style: it broke the world speed records for a series car averaging 431 km / h on the VW Ehra-Leissen test circuit.

The production for Bugatti Veyron Super Sport will start in autumn 2010 and the official launch will take place in august at Pebble Beach, California.

BMW EfficientDynamics Concept is the most comprehensive implementation of the EfficientDynamics philosophy seen so far. The powertrain provides a top speed limited electronically to 155 mph, with acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 3.76 liters/100 kilometers, equal to 62.6 mpg, and the CO2 emission rating is 99 grams per kilometer. CO2 emission management is even more outstanding when driving in the all-electric mode after charging the battery from a plug-in source: Taking all emissions in the generation of electricity into account, as prescribed by the EU formula, the car’s emission rating is just 50 grams per kilometer.

Through this unique balance of driving pleasure and fuel efficiency, the BMW EfficientDynamics Concept car clearly demonstrates the potential of BMW ActiveHybrid technology, which makes its world debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in the BMW X6 ActiveHybrid and BMW 7 ActiveHybrid production models.

The power and performance are made possible by combining a fuel-efficient 3-cylinder turbodiesel with one electric motor on each axle. Overall system output is 356 horsepower, and peak torque is 590 lb-ft. The special arrangement of the two motors and diesel engine allows all-wheel drive when driving in all-electric mode. The Aston Martin 700w Premium Audio System is delivered as standard in the V12 Vantage while the DBS boasts the Bang & Olufsen Beosound DBS audio system as standard.
